Is CELTA worth it? The Student Perspective
Niall, an online CELTA student based in Edinburgh, spoke to us about his experience on the Online Fast-Track CELTA course.
Why did you choose to do the CELTA with BSC?
I chose BSC because of its international standing and long history of teaching. As an establishment approaching its hundred-year anniversary, it struck me as a school with a well-honed and rigorous approach. This, combined with the exceptional level of experience across its staff and its numerous accreditations, made it a no-brainer for me!
How did you find out about our CELTA course?
In online articles and discussions about the best language schools in and around Edinburgh, BSC was consistently mentioned near the top of the list. It was incredibly easy to find and was positioned near the top of search engine results – I’d say it took me less than 5 minutes to discover the website.
What have you enjoyed about the course?
I’ve loved how the course places me as the learner at the centre. Despite it all happening through a screen, my instructors have made the course extremely interactive, with student involvement and input at all levels. I am also constantly working alongside my classmates – this has all enhanced my learning considerably, and has been crucial in reinforcing the student-centred approach we are taught to take with our own students.
Would you recommend the course?
I would highly recommend the fully-online CELTA course. Whilst the tuition and trainee support are second-to-none, the technology is also seamlessly integrated into the learning process. I was really pleasantly surprised at how well the teaching practice worked – I felt as though I were really in the room with my students, and the additional challenge of managing the online classroom will stand me in good stead going into the ELT job market.
