Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools
The Nazarbayev Intellectual schools are a group of schools in Kazakhstan for gifted students named after Nursultan Nazarbayev, the country's former president.
British Study Centres provided teaching staff with a blended teacher training course to enhance knowledge of CLIL (Content and language integrated learning).
The Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools (NIS) is a network of schools across Kazahstan for gisted secondary pupils. The school's instruction is trilingual, with teaching starting in Kazakh, Russian and English and shifting to exclusively English by the pupils' junior year.
British Study Centres worked with the schools to reinforce awareness and good practice of CLIL (content and language integrated techniques).
BSC delivered a modular blended teacher training
course to 160 NIS secondary teachers. Module 1
(Content & Language) & Module 3 (Train the Trainer)
were delivered face to face in Kazakhstan while Module 2 (Video-enhanced Observations) was carried out online.
The aim was to increase capacity by training CLIL trainers who, later, would support and train other internal CLIL secondary teachers.
The secondary goals were to reinforce awareness
and good practice of CLIL classroom pedagogy
and techniques and to strengthen English language
ability, in particular classroom language, through
immersive classroom practice and online forum
communication.
